The diameter of a small gear is 16cm. This is 2.5 cm more than 1/4 of the diameter of a larger gear. What is the diameter of the larger g!ear

The problem statement tells us ...
  16 cm = 2.5 cm + (1/4)*(large gear diameter)

We can subtract 2.5 cm and multiply by 4 to find the large gear diameter.
  13.5 cm = (1/4)*(large gear diameter)
  54 cm = (large gear diameter)

The diameter of the larger gear is 54 cm.
