x^2+ 6x - 9 = 0

Use the quadratic formula
x = (−b± sqrt (b^2−4ac)) / 2a

a =  1
b = 6
c = -9

x = −6± sqrt (6^2−4(1)(-9) / 2(1)
x = (−6± sqrt(72))/2

so these are your two solutions to the equation
x = 1.243
x = -7.243
