The sum of two numbers is 53 and the difference is 15 . what are the numbers?

19 because the two equations would be:
x+y=53 and x-y=15 and if you solve the second one for x it becomes: x=15+y and of you plug that in and solve it becomes:
(15+y)+y=53
15+2y=53
2y=38
y=19
