Discuss how far sociologists would agree that the wider the family is becoming less important in people’s lives?

They would agree with this idea up to a certain point. Sociologists who've been studying how the wider family has been losing it's importance know that it's not that vital as it was a few decades ago. However, they still represent an important social support structure for the nuclear family.
