Okay, so:

2x and 3 are not really meant to be multiplied. 2x has an x in it, while 3 is just a number. However, If the 2x or 3 was outside the parenthesis, you could multiply them by a product.

2x(3)

3(2x)

In that case, either one would equal 6x.
