Article 1, Section 10 of the US Constitution grants more power to the federal government by limiting the states in several specific ways. States are limited in terms of the contracts they may enter into with foreign states, in their ability to maintain a currency, in the trade relations they may enter into with foreign states, and in their ability to enter into independent military alliances with foreign states.
