2,000 pounds are a short ton also sometimes referred to as an English ton. Your 20,000 pounds are therefore 10 short tons. By contrast the Metric ton is 1,000 kg or 2,204 American pounds. 2000 pounds = 1 short ton 2240 pounds = 1 long ton
