The ester product formed from the condensation reaction between benzoic acid and ethanol is ethyl benzoate, with the molecular formula [tex] C_{9} H_{10} O_{2} [/tex]. Ethyl benzoate is a colorless liquid, with a pleasant odor often described to be a blend of sweet, fruity, medicinal, cherry, grap, and wintergreen.
