The relationship between plantation owner and the slaves pretty much only beneficial for the owner.
The slaves do not even want their position and if they wouldn't met the demand of the owner, they will receive harsh punishments.
Often times, to regulate the slaves, the owner will choose one person from among the slaves to become his right hand man that gained a privilege to be excepted from punishments with the requirement that that the chosen slave have to help controlling the others for the owner.
