What is the first correct step in solving the equation, x^2+12x=13

subtract 13 from both sides of the equation.

subtract 13
to get x^2+12-13=0
then factor it
to get (x-1)(x+13)=0
then just solve for x :
x-1=0
add 1 to both sides to get x=1
x+13=0
subtract 13 from both sides to get x=-13
then just plug in the two answers to see which one works........hope that helps
