Let x be the first number
Let y be the second number 

x+y=61 
x-y=37 --> x=37+y 

(37+y)+y=61
37+2y=61 
2y=61-37 
2y=24
y=12 

x+y=61 
x+12=61 
x=61-12 
x=49 

Therefore the numbers are 49 and 12
