b = price per pound of bananas

4b= $1.96    now divide both sides by 4  and get $ .49 per pound

let say a pound of bananas = x

4 times x equals $1.96

4x = 1.96    (divide 4 from each side)

[tex] \frac{4x}{4} = \frac{1.96}{4} [/tex]

[tex]x=0.49[/tex]

A pound of bananas is $0.49
