Thomas Becket was ordered to be killed. This was because Henry II felt that Becket was taking too much power and his ability to excommunicate certain ecclesiastics from the church. This angered Henry, who called for Becket's murder: four knights who were made aware of this left the kingdom and did so to Becket.
