The Forbidden city was built with a lot of symbolism relating to philosophical and religious believes as well as the majesty of imperial power.
Most of the roofs in the city have yellow glazed tiles because yellow is the color of the emperor. The library roof is black which symbolizes fire-prevention and the crown prince's residence was green representing growth.
