the first thing you would do is divide 31 by 100 and that would be .31 then because you are looking for 15% you would multiply .31 by 15 and get the answer $4.65 then to find the total you would add $31 and $4.65 and the answer would be $35.65

100% + 15% = 115%

100% = $31.00 (bill)
1% = $31.00 ÷ 100 = $0.31
115% = $0.31 × 115% = $35.65 (bill + tip)
