Taxonomy is basically putting organisms into groups depending on their characteristics. So, for evidence, they can use DNA structure, if a higher percentage of their DNA is shared then they are more closely related... biochemical evidence such as protein structure, such as cytochrome c, the more similar the structure the more closely related... and of course you have evolution as evidence and fossil record
