4+3=7, so you have to divide 42 by 7, which is 6.

6×4=24, and 6×3=18

The ratio would be 24:18 which is 4:3

If they are in the ratio 4:3, then 4x + 3x = 42
7x = 42
x = 6
So the rate is 6.
