The polynomial remainder theorem says that the remainder when dividing a polynomial [tex]P(x)[/tex] by a linear divisor [tex]x-k[/tex] is simply [tex]P(k)[/tex].

If [tex]P(x)=5x^3+49x^2+74x+6[/tex], then the remainder upon dividing by [tex]x+8[/tex] is

[tex]P(-8)=-10[/tex]

You could also verify this by actually computing the quotient and remainder.
