this is a difference of two cubes equation. To solve it, use this formula:

(a^3-b^3) = (a-b)(a^2+2ab+b^2)

or

x^3-8 = (x-2)(x^2+4x+4)

x³ - 8 = 0

x³ = 0 + 8

x³ = 8

Take the cube root of both sides

∛x³ = ∛8

∛(x*x*x) = ∛(2*2*2)

x = 2
