There are full 3 boxes inside this figure. Which means that this figure has

[tex]4 \times 3 = {12cm}^{2} [/tex]

This is area of full squares in the figure.

Then, there are 4 number of ¾ squares in figure.

So, [tex] \frac{3}{4} \times 4 \times 4 = 1 \times 4 \times 3 \\ = 12[/tex]

So, total answer is [tex] {12cm}^{2} + {12cm}^{2} = 24cm {}^{2} [/tex]
