          Una cuenca de drenaje de un río es un área drenada por un río y todos sus afluentes. Una cuenca fluvial se compone de muchas cuencas hidrográficas diferentes. Una cuenca es una versión pequeña de una cuenca fluvial. Cada arroyo y afluente tiene su propia cuenca, que desemboca en un arroyo o humedal más grande.
