You would use foil method for this problem.
Foil stand for first, outer, inner, and last
(x+1) ( x-8)
x^2+x -8x -8
x^2 -7x-8
When you foil, you multiply each factor by the other. After you foil, you combine like terms to successfully create your trinomial.
