According to McClelland’s Theory of Growth Needs, there are three needs: need for achievement, need for power, and need for affiliation. In this particular case, Greene was unhappy despite his high income because his need for achievement and need for power aren’t fulfilled. He wants to do better on teaching, to solving a complex problem, carry out a challenging assignment -helping floor worker successfully, and develop a better way to do his job.
