Why were some americans opposed to the constitution?

They were called anti-federalists and they opposed it for fear that it would create a central government with too much power and strip them of individual rights.  (They were just controlled by a king not long ago, you can see why some were scared).  Anyway, the Bill of Rights was written to appease these anti-federalists by writing out all of their liberties and amending the constitution when needed.
