Procedural memory is a type of unconscious and long-term memory. It is necessary for the processes that we perform automatically and below the level of conscious awareness. Those processes usually remain below the level of conscious awareness, but when needed they are automatically retrieved. Some of these well-learned automatic skills are walking, talking, reading, riding a bike, tying shoes, etc.
