Answer:

(5, 1.5 )

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the 2 equations

5x - 4y = 19 → (1)

x + 2y = 8 → (2)

Multiplying (2) by 2 and adding to (1) will eliminate the y- term

2x + 4y = 16 → (3)

Add (1) and (3) term by term to eliminate y

7x + 0 = 35

7x = 35 ( divide both sides by 7 )

x = 5

Substitute x = 5 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (2)

5 + 2y = 8 ( subtract 5 from both sides )

2y = 3 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 1.5

solution is (5, 1.5 )

Graph the equations.... (16) y = -7x + 2 (17) y = 5x + 4 (18) y = -x + 9 (19) y = 1/5x (20) y = -2/3x +1 (21) y = 4/3x - 5
Tell whether the graphs of the two equations are parallel lines... (24) y = 8x-3 , 8x + y =3 (25) 2x + y = 5 , -6 + 2x = y (26) 2x + y = 5 , y = 0.5x - 3 (27) y
