(f+g)x = f(x)+g(x)

Therefore,

[tex] \frac{x}{4} - 3 + {4x}^{2} + 2x - 4 \\ 4 {x}^{2} + ( \frac{x}{4} + \frac{8x}{4} ) - 7 \\ 4 {x}^{2} + \frac{9x}{4} - 7[/tex]
