Steps:
1. Simplify both sides of the equation.
(1/2x+x)+(1-1/4)=5 (Combine like terms)
-> 3/2x+3/4=5

2. Subtract 3/4 from both sides.
3/2x+3/4=5
-3/4 -3/4
3/2x=17/4

3. Flip 3/2 then multiply both sides by 2/3.
(2/3)3/2x=17/4(2/3)
X=17/6
