5 * ( A NUMBER + 4) = 8

You can replace "A NUMBER"  with a term such as x.

5 * ( x + 4) = 8

You can also rearrange the equation to solve for "A NUMBER".

A NUMBER + 4 = 8 / 5 = 1.6

A NUMBER = 1.6 - 4 = -2.4
