The answer is because they will increase the yield of electricity.

A photovoltaic panel is able to convert light into electricity. This is because it consists of many cells wired together. The cells are wired in a series and/or parallel to produce the required voltage and subsequently increase the amount of electricity generated. The number of cells depends on the amount of electricity required.
