  • A fixed joint is like the sutures of the skull. The joints hardly move.
  • The hinge joint is those that have 90 degrees freedom of movement such as the elbow joint.
  • Gliding joint occurs where one bone glides over the other's flat or nearly flat articular surfaces. Examples are those of the ankles.
  • The ball-and-socket joint allows for 180-degree freedom of movement. An example is the joint at the hip bone.
