Hipparchus was a "Greek astronomer and mathematician" who discovered the procession of equinoxes.
He also calculated the length of a year and developed early trigonometry. The star catalog developed by Hipparchus consists of an entry of almost 850 stars.
This catalog was completed in '129 BC'. The catalog also specified the apparent brightness of the various stars listed.
This catalog formed a basis for the development of various other star catalogs.
