Your supposed to add the like terms and 7x and 6x are like terms so you add those and get 13x and 9 and 2 are like terms and when you add them you get 11 and the answer of the first part of the equation is 13x + 11

Hello there!

7x + 2 + 6x + 9 = 12x + 5

13x + 11  = 12x + 5

13x - 12x = 5 - 11

x = -6

As always, it is my pleasure helping students like you. Please let me know if you have any questions about the answer. Thanks!
