The main reaction of the public was of dislike.

After Stoddard cancels the opening of his temple, Toohey writes an awful criticism about the building.

This makes Stoddard sue Roark for breach of contract and malpractice.

The public supported Stoddard and every architect in New York express their concern with Roark's style, since they deem it to be unorthodox and illegitimate.
