Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

f(x) = 9x - 5

g(x) = -11x + 5

Discussion:

f(x) =

2x + 7x - 5 =                          (combine common terms, i.e. x terms)

(2x + 7x) -5  =

(2 + 7)x - 5

9x - 5

g(x) =

-8x -3x + 5 =                            (combine common terms, i.e. x terms)

(-8x - 3x) + 5  =

(-8 - 3)x + 5 =

= -11x + 5

Thank you,

MrB
