in this sentence should the 'de' be 'du'? "Non, je ne fais pas de sport."

If you use 'de' the sentence is "No I don't do sports." and if you use 'du' the sentence turns into "No, I'm not a sportsman." So it depends on what you want to say.

"Je fais du sport" = affirmative sentence

"Non je ne fais pas de sport." = negative sentence



other example :

Est-ce que tu bois du café ? Non, je ne bois pas de café.

Elle mange du pain. Elle ne mange pas de pain.
