The Kyoto protocol was an international agreement between industrialized countries to cut their greenhouse gas emissions 5% below their 1990 levels.
As a global response to climate change, industrialized countries had agreed upon reducing their gas emissions and switching from fossil fuel based systems to more eco-friendly fuels. Less developed countries were excempt due to the technology and high cost of the switch.
