(x+y)+(x-y)i=7+3i

x+y =7

x-y =3

add these two equations together

x+y =7

x-y =3

------------------

2x = 10

divide by 2

x=5

x+y = 7

5+y =7

subtract 5 from each side

y =2

Answer: x=5
