[tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex] ( 3 - cosx)

using the double angle formula

cos2x = 1 - 2sin²x

then cosx = 1 - 2sin²( [tex]\frac{x}{2}[/tex])

⇒ sin² ([tex]\frac{x}{2}[/tex]) = - [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex] ( cosx - 1 )

⇒ 1 + sin²( [tex]\frac{x}{2}[/tex])

= 1 - [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]( cosx - 1 )

= 1 - [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]cosx + [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]

= [tex]\frac{3}{2}[/tex] - [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]cosx

= [tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]( 3 - cosx )
