Distribute the fractions on the outside of the parentheses into the inside:

1/2(4x) + 1/2(-2) - 2/3(6x + 9) < 4

2x - 1 - 4x - 6 < 4

Combine like terms:

- 2x - 7 < 4

Add 7 to both sides to get variables on one side of the inequality and constants on the other:

- 2x < 4 + 7

- 2x < 11

Divide by - 2 to isolate variable x. Because you are dividing by a negative, you will have to flip your inequality.

x > 11 / - 2

x > [tex]-\frac{11}{2}[/tex]
