The glass ceiling is called like this because it refers to a barrier that is invisible- much like a glass ceiling would be. This barrier is thought to be an obstacle for minorities: ethnic, racial,minorities or women and transgender people in reaching their goals, but it's not publickly acknowledged: it's invisible.
