The surface area of the hat can be found using the formula A = 4[tex] \pi [/tex]r.
Since the radius is half of the diameter you would divide the diameter by 2 to get a radius of 8. You then substitute r for 6 in the formula and get the surface area.
A = 4[tex] \pi [/tex]6
A = 804.25
