The story telling was a form of entertainment and by sharing these stories, a sort of history was kept alive. Literature literally means: Things made from letters. It contained their Stories
History
Medicines
Songs
Ceremonies
Now in the possesion of museums

Stories that were passed down through generations by speaking to one another. Eventually the oral stories were written down, and this made up Native American Literature.
